Welcome to Bed and Bagels, my little oasis in the Tucson desert. I feel privileged to live in this beautiful place and enjoy sharing my home with visitors. I hope I have the opportunity to share it with you.
I moved to Tucson in 1993 to accept a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Arizona. I am a clinical psychologist and directed Alzheimer rehabilitation research projects at the University between 1994 and 2001. I currently direct an exercise and memory- and language-stimulation program for memory-challenged senior adults using university interns and volunteers to administer the interventions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbscTmUKHVc
Operating this bed and breakfast fulfilled a lifetime fantasy and has been a pleasant adjunct to my academic life. I am originally from Chicago, but lived most of my adult life in the D.C. suburbs, where I raised three children and worked for the D.C. and Federal Governments.
I am a lover of animals, birds, and the out of doors, and enjoy the company of children. Your co-hosts are an affectionate small dog, Levi, and a matched set of cats: Mari and Achi. I'm also a volunteer naturalist at Sabino Canyon Recreation area where you can enjoy free nature programs and guided hikes.
I have studied in Mexico and Germany and traveled extensively--happily displaying my eclectic collection of art and craft items collected during my travels. As member of an international home exchange club, I have exchanged hospitality with people from South Africa, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Denmark, Peru and Israel, as well as various cities in the U.S.
Having "done" Arizona from top to bottom since moving to Tucson, I can direct you to wonderful outings and experiences here. I hope I will have that opportunity.
Life is uncertain...eat dessert first!
Bed and Bagels reflects Sharon's passion for international travel, good food, the out-of-doors, and art collecting.
You'll enjoy whole house privileges, free wifi, outdoor hot tub, and free coffee, snacks, and cereal fixings.
Birders, hikers, bikers, families, elderly will feel at home.
Pool and hot tub are separated from the patio area by a six foot safety fence with self-closing tricky-to-open latch that’s out of children’s reach. A large comfy float invites a snooze (and a sunburn, if you’re not careful!) Jacuzzi is shaded by a lush mesquite tree, haven for nesting birds. Patio with umbrella table and barbecue grill is accessible from the kitchen and family room. A favorite play area for supervised children. There’s another patio shaded under an overhang with its own dining table, chairs, overhead light and fan.
Painting over the sofa is by area artist, Faigee, who won best in show at the annual juried Tubac Art Fair several years ago.
Breakfast amid the Chinese teakwood furnishings of the mountain-view dining room. Watch hummingbirds hover and sip, quail parading by, and traffic at the seed feeders. Family room at left/center is “on limit” for pets.
Cozy up with a good book and enjoy scenic views of the Catalina Mountains.
Your host is an experienced outdoor enthusiast, birdwatcher, and volunteer naturalist at Sabino Canyon National Recreation Area.
Talk about travels from the Galapagos to the Orient, from local restaurants to favorite recipes, from great books to great music!
